# The Truth of the Luke Edwards Case

- Luke Edwards absconded from Tetelestai Recovery Centre on the evening of 8 April 2025. The abscondment was reported on TRC’s internal communications at 23:06. From that point he was no longer in TRC care or custody.
- At 01:30 on 9 April 2025, Residentia Mooi Hawens CCTV recorded him alive, fully clothed, without visible injuries, speaking with security and drinking water. Mooi Hawens is a separate, fenced retirement facility adjacent to TRC.
- His body was discovered at approximately 05:20 on 9 April 2025 inside the Mooi Hawens property — not on TRC grounds. The last person to see him alive was the Mooi Hawens security guard.
- On 9 July 2025 the Umlazi Regional Court granted bail, finding insufficient evidence to keep the accused in custody.
- The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health investigation found no evidence directly implicating TRC staff (confidential report dated 9 July 2025).
- On 15 January 2026 the Director of Public Prosecutions abandoned all murder charges for lack of evidence. Remaining charges are Kidnapping and Attempted Murder relating to events on 7–8 April 2025 at TRC, not homicide. The State Prosecutor confirmed the abandonment in open court on 24 April 2026.
