On 11 April 2025, Nikhil Gopichand correctly reported the body was found on the Mooi Hawens property. Within weeks, journalists systematically relocated the crime scene closer to TRC — despite CCTV evidence, DOH reports, and sworn court testimony confirming the actual location.

Actual Location & Lack of Evidence — Never Disputed by Official Records

Luke Edwards' body was found deep inside the fenced Mooi Hawens retirement property at 05:20 on 9 April 2025. He was last seen alive at the Mooi Hawens gate at 01:30 (CCTV), clothed and uninjured.

At the 9 July 2025 bail hearing, Sgt. Khanyase's written statement was so incoherent that the Magistrate said it made "absolutely no sense." He had ignored the 01:30 CCTV footage, possessed no eye witnesses, and relied exclusively on statements from other patients. He admitted under oath he never verified his claims about TRC staffing with official sources.

The Magistrate explicitly granted bail because there was no evidence against the accused. Her ruling: "There is no evidence to suggest otherwise... To say that there's a likelihood of him doing this without providing evidence is not sufficient." Bail was set at R2,000 each.

Systematic Omissions

Journalists repeatedly failed to report exonerating evidence that was publicly available.

DOH Report Ignored

From 1 July 2025, the Department of Health confidential report clearing TRC was sent to media enquiries. Hein Kaiser, Zama Myeza, and Carte Blanche all published stories after this date without mentioning the exoneration.
